Another interesting area where 3D scanning has found its application is the restoration of historical keyboard instruments.
If we are making new tools, we can easily adapt everything to production and we know how each individual component is made. However, in the case of restoration, the process is much more demanding. We get our hands on an already manufactured condition and it is very difficult to measure it and restore it exactly. All parts have to be repaired or remanufactured so that they "fit exactly".
This is where a 3D scanner finds its application, which transfers the exact real state of the scanned object to the computer, and we can then make adjustments/repairs with regard to the already existing state.
We are very happy to cooperate with experts in this field. Especially with Mr. Jan Bečička. You can see their creations yourself at harpsichord.cz.
