From January 2018 to October 28, 2018, the renovation of the Old Town Astronomical Clock in Prague took place. The main purpose of the restoration works was to return to the original appearance and mechanics from the form of the 60s.
During World War II, the observatory was hit by a tank and the subsequent fire damaged most of it. After the war, the clock was repaired so that it was fully functional again. During the repair, some more modern elements were used, and the entire mechanism is therefore composed of historical elements and more modern, and often unsuitable, parts. After this year's renovation, this cultural-historical monument should return to a state that resembles its original form as much as possible, both functionally and visually. It was with great pleasure that we received a call from restaurateurs requesting a scan of this national historic gem. The purpose of the scan was to accurately document the repaired mechanics and preserve this condition for future reference. The conditions for this task were almost ideal. As part of the renovation, the clock was dismantled in the previous months and transported to a specialized workshop outside Prague.
