We also follow the current events around us, and as part of our work we came across accessories that should make life easier for 3D scanners. It won't work for us and we have to share our experience.
We already had a network with position points in our portfolio about fifteen years ago and actually used it. So we've recorded our insights from using it for you so you can decide for yourself whether it's a step forward or not.
Pros
Cons
The fate of this accessory
This accessory has been discontinued and discontinued. The main reasons were that after scanning it was not possible to fully guarantee the accuracy of the scan (slight network movement). In some cases, only part of the network moved, and the result was distorted only in some areas.
Even in cases where high precision is not needed, we have encountered complications, as even the slightest movement of the mesh causes the scanner to consider the position points as new combinations, and the folding of the scan subsequently does not proceed correctly, or more surfaces are created. Subsequently, it is difficult to determine which are correct and which are not, or how to merge them.
We hope that our findings will be of benefit to some users. It is certainly not our job to discourage you from using this accessory. We just want you to be aware of the risks above that come with using the network.
